GifOS runs in your browser, so what your browser can do is what GifOS can do. This page is the honest list. It is drawn straight from browser-support.json in the source — the same file the meeting page reads before it lets anyone in — so it cannot quietly go out of date.
The short version: if your phone or computer has had its updates in the last couple of years, everything works. If a meeting ever turns you away, it will tell you exactly which browser and which version you need, and updating is almost always the entire fix.
Loading the list…
Two usual reasons. Either the link did not start with
https:// — no browser will do private, scrambled calls over a
plain address, and the page says so in those words — or you tapped the link
inside another app (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and friends each carry a
small browser of their own, with pieces missing). Opening the same link in
Safari or Chrome fixes the second one every time.
Because we have not. Several browsers are Chrome underneath but number their own releases differently, and we would rather say so than invent a number that might turn away a browser that works perfectly well. Nothing is blocked on a guess: the meeting page never looks at your browser's name to decide — it checks whether the actual pieces are there — so an unlisted browser that can do the job simply works.
On purpose. You can join a meeting with no camera at all and still see and hear everyone — that is a normal way to be in a room, not a broken one, so a missing camera never keeps you out.
Your Home Screen still works. Meetings and broadcasts are the parts that need the newer pieces; making, keeping and sharing your GIF apps does not.
Something here wrong, or a browser you'd like us to check? Open an issue and say which browser and version — that is exactly what turns a "we have not checked" into a real answer.
